Hmmm…this is very interesting. You can download images of the $50 bill here or you can read the press release.

The U.S. government will offer over the Internet low-quality images of its new $50 bill for artists, students and others who discover that their computers, scanners or printers won’t allow them to view or copy pictures of the new currency.

Uncle Sam is making sure that computers won’t cooperate with would-be counterfeiters — even as it tries to accommodate consumers who legitimately want or need images of the currency.

They seem to have put a lot of effort into preventing anybody from counterfeiting it. So much for my secret plan to counterfeit billions of dollars! Curses…foiled again!

It’s a little unnerving though that they’ve added secret stuff into consumer hardware/software. I can understand them doing it but it still freaks me out a little bit. What other things besides anti-counterfeiting technology has the government been adding that we don’t know about? :shock:
