Dvorak on the Google Browser

I’m inclined to agree with John, I can’t imagine Google *not* doing a browser.

The question is when will we see it and what will it look like? As far as replacing Windows, I don’t know about that. But more and more it seems that (with the exception of games) the OS that you use doesn’t matter much. There are plenty of applications available for Linux and Mac OS X, so much so that you don’t really need Windows to do most computing tasks.

Hard-core gaming is an exception but, even there, you can find games for other operating systems as well as for Windows (just not as many).

In my own case, Gmail has won me over and moved me away from running local email clients. I don’t even bother any more. I use Gmail for all my email and it’s particularly useful because I’m constantly switching operating systems. Running local email clients would be a huge pain in the rear end for me at this point. It’s just easier to have it all in Gmail.

Email is only one application though. If Google keeps going, we may find ourselves using GOffice as well as Gmail, GBrowser and whatever else Google comes up.

I’d be happy to see this. Anything that forces more competition and innovation as well as preventing one company from dominating the desktop so much, is a good thing.

Would you consider using a Gbrowser based on Firefox?
