Apple Releases New Ipods

Darn it. And I just bought one recently too!

Apple has revamped its range of iPods, introducing a 30GB photo model for $349, and a new iPod mini priced at under $200, as well as a 6GB model for $249.

The 30GB iPod photo uses a new drive mechanism, reducing the number of platters in the drive from two to one, allowing the iPod to be thinner. Otherwise, the external look of the device is unchanged, with a 2in color LCD capable of displaying 65,000 colors. The 60GB version has been reduced in price to $449 from its previous level of $599. However, the company no longer ships a dock with each model – instead, it becomes a $39 optional accessory.

The iPod mini range has been expanded to two models, with the original 4GB version dropping in price to $199 and a new 6GB iPod at the old price of $249. Both models feature expanded battery life of up to 18 hours.

I’m tempted to buy a new one just for the battery life though. I don’t really need to but I’m greedy.

I haven’t run into a storage problem yet but I’m sure I’ll hit the end of 4GB at some point. But it’s not like I have to keep every audio book I’m listening to on my iPod at the same time.

If you’re in the market for an iPod, might be time to get one.
