Cable Companies Making Solid Profits
I love my internet connection but I hate the cable companies. I really do. Especially Comcast. They certainly don’t seem to be lacking in profits right now. More power to them but I wish Comcast would stop screwing people who just want a fast internet connection without paying for cable TV.
Time Warner Cable, the country’s second-largest cable operator, posted a higher-than-expected third-quarter profit on Wednesday, driven by phone and Internet subscriptions, but it nudged down forecasts for the year.
Profit rose to $301 million, or 31 cents a share, compared with $248 million, or 25 cents a share, a year earlier. The company said the latest results included $53 million in costs associated with its planned separation from Time Warner.
Time Warner Cable added 214,000 high-speed Internet subscribers and 200,000 phone subscribers during the quarter.
The New York cable operator Cablevision Systems swung to a profit in the third quarter helped by additions to its Internet and phone subscribers during the period.
The company had a net profit of $27.1 million, or 9 cents a share, compared with a loss of $79.3 million, or 27 cents a share, in the period a year ago.
