iPhone 3G 2.2 Update Problems? I Haven’t Seen Any Yet

Venture Beat has a piece on problems with the iPhone 2.2 update. Or should I say they are talking about how they haven’t had any problems unlike an article CNet wrote where they implied that there were tons of problems.

When I saw the headline on CNET’s iPhone Atlas blog proclaiming that “iPhone OS 2.2 Problems Run Rampant,” I scratched my head. After all, I probably use the iPhone more than most people both for regular tasks and the testing of applications, and I haven’t noticed one noteworthy problem with the new update.

So when I read the report, which starts with “Users, in droves, continue to report a bevy of issues…” — that’s “rampant,” “droves” and “bevy” in the first dozen or so words for those keeping score at home on the hyperbole meter — I was still baffled, as I haven’t experienced a single one of the issues listed in the story (disappearing apps, WiFi problems, syncing problems and many others). Then I read the comments on the post, and it appears that basically none of iPhone Atlas’ readers have either.

My own experience with the update has been terrific. I have not had any problems whatsoever with it. No burps, no bugs, no nothing at this point. I’m not sure what the heck CNet was talking about but I can’t complain about the 2.2 iPhone 3G update at all.

I had no problems installing it either. It went as smooth as silk. And I have TONS of apps on my iPhone 3G as I’m constantly testing apps for my iPhone 3G Free Software Reviews Blog. No problems installing or removing apps either after the update.

I agree with Siegler in his Venture Beat post that CNet seems to be engaging in some serious hyperbole in their article. I’m all for criticizing Apple when they screw up (and they have in the past) but they seem to have done a good job with the iPhone 3G 2.2 update.
